A series of online courses have been developed to meet the needs of busy parents. Busy schedules, child care, and transportation can be barriers that prevent people from participating in traditional Parent University classes, so the new website also includes online courses that can be taken whenever it’s convenient. The following courses are available online, in both English and Spanish: attendance and achievement, BGRAD success secrets, and teaming with teachers.
Student Attendance Campaign Continues This Fall
This fall, as part of the district’s parent engagement plan, GRPS is continuing an aggressive campaign focused on improving student attendance.
Student success goes hand in hand with good attendance and far too many students are chronically absent – missing 18 or more days of school. Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success in kindergarten through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, parents and families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely, every day, ready to learn.
As part of the Transformation Plan, the district is phasing in a new school dress code requiring all students to wear school uniforms. This year, elementary, K8, and middle school students are required to wear uniforms.
What are the requirements?
Tops: Collared shirts, vests, sweaters in navy blue, light blue, white, black, red, or orange (Ottawa Hills feeder schools)
Bottoms: Pants, shorts, dresses, and skirts in navy blue, black, or tan/khaki. Denim, sweatpants, and leggings are not permitted to be worn as pants.
