Harrison Athletics Give back to the Community

Harrison Athletics Give back to the Community

On Friday November 18, 2011 the Harrison Wildcats put on a fundraiser to donate money to the local Mel Trotter Missions. The fundraiser was a volleyball match between the boy’s soccer team and the girl’s soccer team at the end of the school day. To raise money for the event all 5th-8th graders who wanted to attend needed to bring at least a dollar to donate and could come to the gym for the last hour of the day.
The event started of with a warm up match between the 6th grade volleyball team and the 6th grade soccer team, in a close 15-13 match won by the soccer team. Following this match the 7th and 8th graders played a close three game series with the volleyball team taking home the victory.
The real victory was the $257 raised by the students during this event. All proceeds from this event went to Mel Trotter to help feed and shelter families during the holidays. We like to thank the parents, teachers, and especially the kids for making this such a successful event.

City Middle Wins 2nd Annual Volleyball Tournament

City Middle Wins 2nd Annual Volleyball Tournament

The 2nd Annual Middle School Volleyball tournament took place on Saturday, November 6th at Ottawa Hills High School. For many of the young athletes it was only their first or second real tournament experience of competing all day long. Beginning at 8am, teams had to play through a pool play format and then advance onto bracket play.

Losing only one set in pool play to Southwest Community Campus, the ladies of City Middle defeated the tough teams of GR Ford and Westwood. They knew they would have their work cut out for them when they were matched up against the undefeated, defending champions of Riverside in the finals. The Lady Pegasus dominated set one of the match with tough serving and good defense. Riverside came out strong in set two, but they couldn’t come up with enough points to defeat the determined City team.
