Free Water Safety Swim Lessons

Free water safety classes for Grand Rapids Public Schools students in Kindergarten – 5th grade. 2014 Spring GRPS Learn-to-Swim Program flyer

Registration: Due to limited class space, sign ups will be taken on a first-come/first-serve basis. Upon calling, please indicate the session you wish to register for, your name and contact information, as well as the name, school, age, and grade of your child.

Schedule: (each session includes 8 x 50 minute classes)

OHHS Boys Swim Conference Meet

OHHS Boys Swim Conference Meet

The Ottawa Hills Men’s swimming and diving team finished their regular season with a 7-2 record and 2nd place in the Conference in dual meets. The highlight of the season was a 3rd place finish at the Rainbow III Conference Meet. In the meet, the 200 Medley Relay of Jack Culp, Larenz Rivero, Michael Pall and Robert Pall took 1st place and qualified for the MHSAA Division 2 state meet. Robert Pall took 1st and qualified for State Meet in both the 200 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle events, and in the process set the Conference record in the 200 Free, and the Conference, Pool and Ottawa Hills School record in the 100 Free. Michael Pall took 1st in the 100 Fly, qualifying for State Meet and setting Conference and Pool records as well. The 400 free relay of Michael Pall, Dominic Nguyen, Jack Culp and Robert Pall also took 1st in the 400 Free Relay. Shane Mason took 3rd in diving and will be competing in the MHSAA D2 Diving Regional meet on Tuesday March 4th. The rest of the team had outstanding swims as well, with every member dropping significant amounts of time off their previous bests. The team with 6 All Conference swimmers (Robert Pall, Jack Culp, Michael Pall, Shane Mason, Dominic Nguyen and Larenz Riverois) is only graduating one senior this year and is looking to be even stronger next season.

2014 Middle School Swim Finals

Hats off to the North Swim team on back to back swim championships.  The swim team lead by Coach TJ Brock had the overall best score in the 2014 Middle School Swim Finals.  The coed team proved to be the best with outstanding performances in multiple swim events.  Compliments to City and Riverside for their dedication and perseverance during this year’s swim season. 

The Theme Swim team were the 2014 Swim Final runner up.  The overall team score was very close and came down to the last events.  The Theme team made every effort for gold, but came up short.

Ottawa Hills dropped a close meet against a very deep Wayland team. That brings their final dual meet record to 7-2 (3-1 in the Conference).

OHHS Swim Invitational

5 teams competed at the Ottawa Hills Invitational this afternoon. While Ottawa Hills captured 7 of the 12 gold medals, it was Wayland with the depth to take the meet.

OHHS Boys Swim vs Catholic Central

Ottawa Hills increased their dual meet record to 6-1 tonight with a 101-85 win over Catholic Central. Ottawa Hills coach Eve Julian was thrilled with her team’s performance. “Catholic Central has a smaller team than usual this year, but we knew they still had a lot of talent and great coaching. We had a lot of guys really step up across the board and we had some really significant time drops. It was truly a team win.” Catholic Central nabbed first place finishes in the 50 free, Diving, 500 free, and the 200 free relay.

OHHS Boys Swim vs West Catholic

Ottawa Hills continued their streak of wins tonight against a young West Catholic squad. The Ottawa 200 Medley Relay of Jack Culp, Larenz Rivero, Michael Pall and Robert Pall qualified for the MISCA meet, while diver Shane Mason earned his fifth win and a spot in the regional diving competition.

OHHS Boys Swim vs TK/Hastings

“Congratulations to the OHHS Men’s Swim team on a thrilling 93-92 win over TK/Hastings last night. This brings their record to 4-1 on the season. Individual first place finishers were Dominic Nguyen, Jack Culp, Robert Pall and Larenz Rivero. First place relay finishers were Jack Culp, Larenz Rivero, Michael Pall, Robert Pall, and Shane Mason. The team’s next meet is at home against West Catholic next Thursday. “

OHHS Boys Swim vs. Allegan vs. Muskegon Catholic Central

The Ottawa Hills Bengals scored two wins tonight in a double dual meet over Allegan and Muskegon Catholic Central. Allegan also won over Muskegon Catholic Central in their dual meet. Ottawa took 10 first place finishes to move up to 3-1 in their dual meet record.
