1 District seeks 2 District Championships

The Ottawa Hills and Union basketball teams got ready for their big games tonight with a wonderful breakfast prepared by the GRPS public safety team. The student athletes heard words of encouragement and motivation from Kurt Johnson, Executive Director of Athletics; Larry Johnson, Assistant Superintendent and Executive Director of Public Safety; Karl Nelson, Union High Principal; Marcus Harris, Ottawa Hills Athletic Director; Justin Walker, Union Athletic Director; and coaches Van Mayfield and Brandoen Guyton. MS Competitive Cheer

Congratulations to the City Middle School 7/8th grade cheerleaders on being champions of the 2014 competitive cheer finals. The girls had a chance to compete twice against their peers in the school district and proved they were the best both times. Their 2nd Cheer/ Round 3 routine was an outstanding demonstration of precision, skill and flexibility. They were well coached, presentably groomed and ready to compete. Hats off the City Middle School competitive cheerleaders.

5 teams competed at the Ottawa Hills Invitational this afternoon. While Ottawa Hills captured 7 of the 12 gold medals, it was Wayland with the depth to take the meet.

Mayweather basketball flyer 2014Ottawa Hills High School Athletics is hosting the second annual Floyd Mayweather Classic on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Ottawa Hills High School gymnasium. The games will feature some of the top talent and teams from Michigan and the Chicago area.

COST: Tickets are $10. The ticket is good for all five games. Ages 5 and under are free. Tickets are available at the door or at the Ottawa Hills Athletic Office Wednesday through Friday from 12:00-3:00pm. OK Conference, Golden Age, and GRPS staff passes will not be accepted at this event.

Union Cross Country Runner qualifies for State meet

Chris Santana finished 9th in the regional cross country meet on saturday. With his 9th place finish Chris has qualified for the state meet on Saturday November 2nd at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI.

Union Boys Soccer

Union boys’ soccer team had tough lost in the MHSAA quarterfinal district game to Jenison. At the end of regulation the score was tied 0-0 and the game went into overtime. Jension scored late in the first half of the overtime period to take a 1-0 lead. The red hawks continued to work hard to even the score but fell short as the overtime period concluded. Union finished the season with 11 wins and 5 losses.
