The Grand Rapids Public Schools Nutrition Services Department takes great pride in serving our students nutritious and wholesome school meals. By providing breakfast, lunch and after school snacks daily (even through the summer), we play an integral role in the academic achievement of GRPS students.

The Lakeside Lions 5th Grade Student Council Representatives were asked back in February to try the school lunches and give their feedback about the choices. The majority of them didn’t eat school lunch on a regular basis and were really impressed when they took the time to check out the variety and taste of the food first hand. They were each given the task of creating a “perfect” school lunch. So, in late March the Lakeside Elementary Student Council Representatives journeyed by bus to the Grand Rapids Public Schools Nutrition Center. After meeting with the nutrition services director and learning about how a menu is actually created, they were given a tour of the facilities. They loved seeing how the food was cooked, packaged and sent out for delivery to the schools. They even got to see the solar panels which power the building! After the tour, they worked as a team to create an exclusive Lakeside menu featuring confetti pasta and meat sauce, carrots, milk, and an original mix of pineapple and grapes, which they call Ferocious Fruit to fit with their mascot of the Lion. The menu will be featured on May 1st. Way to go Lakeside Lions!
